Keep Smiling!

In the last week I have come across a handful of small business owners that have worn the times of the recessionary period on their sleeves. They have been short, rude and just plain unpleasant.  It is easy to understand how they are frustrated with the times that we are living in. What they are failing to realize is that now, more than ever is their time to shine!

Your clients are having a hard time with finances as well. When they choose to spend money, it is an important decision they are making as to whom they will spend it with. This is by far the best time for you to gain their trust and loyalty. If you are able to accomplish that challenge, they will likely become a customer for life!

So how do you do that? First of all, please SMILE! For me, there is nothing worse than seeing anguish on the face of someone I am considering doing business with. Secondly, offer them incentives for choosing you. Whether that is a discount or just added value, let them know you appreciate their business and you want to see them back. Thirdly, if all else fails, fake it ‘til you make it!

Most of us will make it through this difficult economic slump just fine! Distinguishing yourself from your competition is essential at this point. I promise there is no way you will do that with a frown on your face! So take a deep breath and smile at the people who mean the most to your business… your customers.
